On the evening of May 6, Beijing time, Reuters quoted sources as saying that the US Department of Commerce was close to signing a new regulation that would allow US companies to work with Huawei to jointly develop the next generation of 5G network standards.

    Industry and government officials said that blacklisting Huawei actually puts the United States at a disadvantage because it gives Huawei a greater say in 5G network standard-setting meetings, while U.S. engineers are at a disadvantage.
